"Coach G" has coached over 50 junior-level volleyball teams with players ranging from 10-18 years old. He teaches Advanced Placement classes in the Antelope Valley Union High School district where he also serves as an instructional coach. He is a graduate of The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, California and has an M.S. in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University. Coach G has resided in the Antelope Valley since 2004 with his wife Michelle ("Mama G"), and his three children, all of whom play volleyball. Mama G co-directs AV IMPACT and has a lengthy volleyball resume of her own as both a player and a coach.
Coach G started playing volleyball as an outside hitter at Sylmar High School where he earned MVP honors. He began his coaching career with SCAC volleyball club after finishing his undergraduate work. In 1995, he began coaching JV boys at Canyon High School where he amassed a league record of 32-0 over two seasons. He then took over the boys’ and girls’ Division I varsity teams at Canyon, where he enjoyed 13 winning seasons and post-season appearances, as well as numerous top ten rankings and tournament championships. In 2005 he coached the Lancaster girls’ varsity team to their first-ever Golden League championship and repeated it in 2009. In 2010 he served as the head assistant coach at the Master's University where he participated in program development, practice planning, and strength training. He recently completed eleven seasons as the head coach at Quartz Hill High School where his teams have won ten league championships and reached the CIF semi-finals five times. In 2018 his team won the first CIF girls volleyball championship in school history and was a state regional finalist. His combined Golden League record currently stands at 204-16.
Michelle began her athletic career as a dedicated basketball player and didn’t begin playing volleyball until her senior year of high school. Her athletic background paid off when she helped lead her team all the way to the CIF finals. As a middle blocker, Michelle was chosen as a first-team all-league selection and an All-CIF City Section player. After falling in love with the sport she continued to play volleyball at the College of Canyons under Coach Frank Rubio.
Since college, Michelle has continued to be immersed in the game while serving as a coach for Palmdale Parks and Recreation and Quartz Hill HS. She has also coached multiple youth club teams and assisted Coach G for over 20 years. She greatly enjoys the opportunity to connect with and encourage each player that she comes into contact with. She is a graduate of The Master's University and is currently working at Quartz Hill High School as an instructional aide.
Coach Dunham began coaching in 2011 upon graduation from Long Beach State. He then served as freshman head coach and varsity assistant at Edison High School in Huntington Beach. Coach Dunham was awarded the Randy Sandefur physical education/coaching award in 2011 from Long Beach State. He is the former boys' varsity head coach at Antelope Valley High School 2016-2019, achieving a school history best league finish with a runner-up and playoff birth for the first time in over 10 years. He has recently served as the varsity head coach for Quartz Hill Boys Volleyball, winning multiple league championships. In 2024, Ryan was hired as the head men's coach at Antelope Valley College.
He is also the previous head coach for Hillview Middle School 2018-2020, where Coach Dunham led his program to a 23-1 record. As a summer camp clinician for Volleyball1on1, he has travelled around the USA, and internationally working with youth volleyball players and coaches to grow the game of volleyball.
Heather fell in love with volleyball at a young age. She is an alumnus of Desert High School and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Indiana University Purdue University- Indianapolis. Over the past 17 years, Heather has coached volleyball in various parts of the nation as a head and assistant coach of all levels in high school and club. The Antelope Valley will always be home to Coach Heather. She is very grateful to be a part of the AV IMPACT volleyball program and to have the opportunity to work with wonderful athletes and a dedicated, knowledgeable coaching staff.
Growing up in Cottonwood Heights, UT, Jo was a multiple sport varsity athlete playing as an outside hitter and was named female athlete of the year and MVP. She then continued on at Southern Utah University as an athletic trainer and personal trainer where she earned her B.S. in Sports Medicine and Coaching with minors in biology, psychology, and health education. While continuing to work for SUU and the UT Summer Games as an Athletic Trainer, she earned a degree in secondary education.
The Antelope Valley became her home in 2001 where she taught multiple subjects and coached three sports at Lancaster HS including Varsity Volleyball. Over the years she has coached camps, and clinics, and been a tournament director. Her M.S. was earned in 2002 from Azusa Pacific University in Physical Education. In addition to her teaching credential, she also holds an administrative credential. She has worked as an administrator for the Antelope Valley Union High School District since 2007 serving now as the Regional Director of College Career Preparation and Adult Education. Jo has two children who are both playing volleyball. She is excited to return to coaching this year with the Impact family.
Ella started playing volleyball 8 years ago and it has been her passion and love ever since. She played at Quartz Hill High School for Coach G all 4 years and played club for four years as well. She has been a middle blocker and outside hitter and is currently playing on the women’s volleyball team at LA Mission as an opposite/middle. She plans to continue her volleyball career as long as she can. The 2021-22 season was her first experience as an assistant coach. In the subsequent seasons, she served as the head coach of our 13s and 15s teams. This will be her fourth year coaching with AV IMPACT.
Justin grew up in Michigan where he spent his summers playing in beach volleyball tournaments on the shores of Lake Michigan. While he had a passion for volleyball, he also participated in basketball, soccer, and track in high school. He attended Central Michigan University and majored in secondary education while playing volleyball for the Central Michigan Men’s Club team from 1994-1997.
After graduating from CMU in 1998 he moved to California and began working at Quartz Hill High School where he currently teaches Chemistry. He served as the head boys' volleyball coach at Quartz Hill from 1998-2010 where he went 5 consecutive years without losing a Golden League match. In 2008 he coached QH to a CIF volleyball championship, earning the only boys' volleyball championship ever won in the Antelope Valley. He resigned from coaching volleyball when his daughter was born and has since coached his daughter's youth soccer teams. He has also coached boys' and girls' golf at QHHS.
Taylor is entering her 7th year of playing volleyball and she has loved nearly every minute of it. She played at Quartz Hill High School for all four years and became a dedicated AV IMPACT player in her junior year. While she initially hoped to be an outside hitter, she quickly realized that setting was where her heart belonged. Taylor is known for her positive energy and for being a relentless competitor. She’s currently the starting setter at LA Mission College where she’s continuing her setting journey, and hopes to one day play internationally. This will be Taylor’s third year coaching with AV IMPACT.
Luis played four years of volleyball at Antelope Valley HS with Coach Dunham and made the varsity team as a sophomore. He also played with 3D Volleyball Club while in high school. Following graduation, he joined the AVC men's team where he played as an outside hitter before transferring to Benedictine University of Mesa on a volleyball scholarship.
Coach Luis got his coaching start by volunteering at Highland HS where he helped assist the JV and varsity teams in 2021. This will be his third season coaching with AV IMPACT and he was undefeated while winning his boys division in 2022. He has also served as a head coach with Aspire Volleyball Club in Arizona. Next season, he is looking forward to returning to his Alma Mater to coach the varsity boys' volleyball team at Antelope Valley High School. He is also currently serving as the freshman girls’ coach at Lancaster HS, and assisting Coach Dunham with the Antelope Valley College mens' team.
Leah started playing volleyball 7 years ago as a hobby and slowly began to love it. At Quartz Hill HS she earned a spot on the varsity team as a freshman and was an all-league middle blocker playing for Coach G all four years. Following her senior season she was chosen as the Golden League Player of the Year and an All-CIF selection. Leah played club volleyball for AV IMPACT during her junior and senior seasons. She is currently playing on the women’s volleyball team at College of the Canyons and pursuing a major in psychology. Leah coached an 18U team in the 23/24 season. This will be her second year coaching with AV IMPACT.
Sarah grew up in San Francisco, California where she began her volleyball career at just 10 years old. She played club for 8 years in addition to high school volleyball. She then continued her volleyball career at Boise State University playing for the Broncos club team. After four years in Boise Idaho, Sarah returned home eager to stay involved with volleyball and began assistant coaching at College of Marin in the North Bay. Along with assistant coaching, she coached club and beach for ages 10-17 at a local club program. After two years back home in San Francisco, it was time to embark on a new adventure and move south to the Lancaster area. Sarah is excited to start her second season coaching with AV IMPACT and to share her love of the sport with those around her.
Joleen’s love of volleyball came about through coaching all four of her children as a volunteer coach for the City of Palmdale Parks and Recreation over the past 10 years. She has coached all age groups and was awarded Coach of the Year in 2016 being honored by the city of Palmdale, Mayor Ledford, and Assemblyman Lackey.
Joleen has also worked as an instructional assistant for special needs children for the past 12 years. Her passion for coaching stems from watching young athletes grow and learn through sport and fitness.
Coach Ron is embarking on his 2nd season as an assistant coach with AV IMPACT. He is an Alabama native where he earned a football scholarship to Alabama A&M University. After a stellar playing career & graduating with a degree in biology education, he went on to play 5 years in the Arena Professional Football League.
Over the past 18 years in education, Ron has had successful coaching and teaching stops in Alabama, Los Angeles, and the Antelope Valley. He has also served as head football & track coach at Antelope Valley High School helping to produce a Golden League title, 3 playoff appearances, a triple jump state champion, and multiple football scholarships for his athletes. Since then, he has dedicated his time to the completion of two master's degrees and to coaching his twins Ron & Zarah in various sports including football, baseball, softball, and volleyball. Ron currently teaches Biology and AVID, and he is the PBIS Coordinator at Lancaster High School. He is currently the head varsity girls' volleyball coach at Lancaster HS. In addition, he serves as the football recruiting coordinator for Antelope Valley College.
Celeste has been playing volleyball since she was 12 years old. She graduated from Highland HS where she played as a middle hitter and earned all-league honors during both her junior and senior years. As an IMPACT alumnus, she is now attending College of the Canyons to further her volleyball career as a right-side hitter as well as working toward her major in kinesiology in pursuit of her goal to become a sports nutritionist. Celeste is starting her second season as a head coach at AV IMPACT.
Lily Schumacher is from Tulsa, Oklahoma where she played competitive volleyball for six years throughout middle and high school. While playing club volleyball, she helped her team earn three consecutive bids to the 18u National Tournament in her sophomore-senior years. After she graduated, she went on to play D1 JUCO volleyball for Missouri State University-West Plains. There, she helped her team place 3rd in the nation at the national tournament in 2022. Later she transferred to Northwestern Oklahoma State University, a D2 school closer to home. After one year of playing collegiate volleyball and a lot of prayer, God led her to move home and begin coaching. She became the head coach for MS volleyball at Oologah Public Schools in Oklahoma, where she finished with a winning season. Continuing her coaching career, she became the assistant coach for Elevate Volleyball Club 18-2s team. Coach Lily eventually moved to California to be with her husband who serves in the Air Force. They are stationed at Edwards AFB.
Coach Rhiannon fell in love with the sport and started her volleyball career at 7 years old. She played at Quartz Hill High School where she helped the girls' volleyball team win a CIF championship in 2018. After high school, she continued playing volleyball at Antelope Valley College and eventually earned a scholarship to play for Friends University in Wichita Kansas. This is her 3rd year coaching club volleyball. She enjoys being able to connect with her players and encourages them to learn and love the sport. Rhiannon is currently studying to get her bachelor's degree in animal health and behavior and to become a certified veterinary assistant.
Fernanda began playing volleyball in high school and fell in love with the sport. She is an AV IMPACT aluminis and volleyball is now one of her biggest passions in life. She has also played as a middle blocker at Quartz Hill High School and hopes to continue her volleyball career next year at College of the Canyons. Fernanda has assisted AV IMPACT as a clinician and enjoys watching players' love for the sport grow.
A local middle-school music teacher and long-time volleyball coach, Cody has grown up in the sport. His parents were the long-time coaches at Desert High school where he often assisted, including with multiple CIF championship teams. Cody has coached club and college volleyball across Southern California.
A native of the Antelope Valley, he attended Desert High School before attending CSU Long Beach. Prior coaching engagements include Cal Jr's VBC, Antelope Valley VC, Desert HS, and CSU Long Beach women's team. Lewis's most recent playing experinces include a 2016 tour of duty with the United States All-Army Volleyball team. He currently teaches music at Amargosa Creek Middle School in Lancaster, serves as principal clarinetist of Millennial Choirs and Orchestras, and is a reservist with the 300th Army Band.
Daren has been passionate about playing volleyball since the age of 9 and is known for his continuous positive energy and encouragement. He recently completed several seasons on the Quartz Hill varsity boys' volleyball team as a DS and setter. He has also played for AV IMPACT as a setter on the 18-1s team. He is proud of leading his team with 37 aces during his senior year of high school and plans to continue playing in the future.
Roxy Neely played for Coach Gutierrez during her junior and senior years where the first Golden League title was achieved for Lancaster High School. She then played 4 years as a setter/opposite at Cal State East Bay and was awarded the AVCA All-West Region Team (2009) and All-CCAA Team awards (2010). After completing her undergraduate work, she played 2 seasons in professional leagues abroad. Her first season was for Svedala Volley Elitgrupp in Sweden as an outside hitter where she finished 2nd in service aces. She then played a second season in Israel for Hapoel Kfar Saba as a setter, winning the League Cup Championship which was followed by practicing with the Israeli National Team.
Roxy has been coaching since 2011 in northern California after her senior season at CalState East Bay. In addition to coaching club for AVVC, Roxy has coached boys and girls at Paraclete High School and Quartz Hill School for the Junior Varsity and Freshman teams, and assisting Varsity teams. She is currently serving as the head varsity coach at Paraclete High School. Roxy also coaches CrossFit and has coached at CSUN for Sports Performance.
Roxy is currently near completion of an M.S. in Kinesiology (Exercise Physiology) at CSUN where she has also interned and coached for 2 years in the Sports Performance program. Roxy holds a CSCS and has coached CrossFit for 5 years. She also trains athletes in sport-specific strength and conditioning.
Illy began her volleyball journey in 4th-grade clinics at her elementary school. She played on the Desert Christian middle and high school teams where her first position was libero. As a sophomore, she finally grew taller than 4’11 and began training as a setter and as an opposite. By her senior year, she settled into the outside hitter/middle blocker positions as a player for AV IMPACT. She is currently playing volleyball at Antelope Valley College as a middle blocker and plans to continue her volleyball journey for as long as she can. This is Illy's first year coaching club volleyball and she is very excited to gain experience working with AV IMPACT.
Volleyball has been part of Matthew's life for nearly 20 years including time spent as a libero for Redondo Union High School, playing beach volleyball during college, and now coaching at the high school level. Matthew has coached for several years with local club programs in the Antelope Valley and has been the varsity coach of the Desert Christian High School girls' volleyball team for 6 seasons. Matthew brings an energetic and positive approach and has a keen interest in the biomechanics of the game. He is looking forward to the opportunity to coach at AV IMPACT this club season!
